Killing the Pegasus…

Going salaried at my current employer, and have to fill out a job application as a formality. So I was digging around for past employer info in my archives, and came across this e-mail, sent on the occasion of departing Pegasus Solutions…

How not to dine in San Francisco…

The plan was sushi, Golden Gate, jazz bar, hotel. When Logan and Stacey and their 18-month-old joined us, it became sushi, hotel (kid needs his sleep), golden gate, jazz bar, hotel.

What finally happened, though, was french cuisine, impound lot, hotel.

Laid off…

Well, it looks like I don’t escape this downturn unscathed. Integrum just laid off half their staff, including me.

Three guys were suddenly called into one office for a meeting. The rest of us were called into the board room. “Oh, no,” I thought, “they’re laying them off and this is to apprise us of the situation and reassure us that we still have jobs.”

Well, I was half right - the larger group was the one getting laid off. My ears were actually ringing for most of this… “There’s no easy way to say this… The first two quarters were really rough… I hate doing this… I’ll give any of you a glowing letter of recommendation…”

The unlucky ones met up at a restaurant afterwards to talk and plan. Those with savings were going to look into consulting and side jobs for a while. Those without were going on unemployment and starting job hunts. Nobody was really angry at Integrum, just numb and sad.

I’m sad too. This was the best bunch of people I’ve ever been privileged to work with. Hopefully I will be working with them more, just in other venues…

Yet more XBox Live avatar fun…

On this page, Microsoft actually encourages linking to their cache of your avatar image. These actually update as you change your avatar, too.

So here’s a group shot of me and my friends, as we appear on Live currently, apparently with a strong wind blowing from the left…

Six Flags

Rode along to Six Flags with Jennifer and Bryan - lotta fun. The wait for the X2 was ridiculous, especially considering it was like a 90 second ride, and there were zero lines for the rest of the coasters. At least we got some cool photos while in line… The Flip Mino video camera I got as a Christmas present from Integrum took some impressive video while on the coasters themselves. (Er, that is, it would have, if we had broken the rules and brought it, which we would never do.)

In a happy coincidence, Eric and Hitomi just moved less than an hour away from there, so we got to combine trips and visit them. We didn’t get to do conveyor sushi (that restaurant was tiny and packed) but we hit another sushi place, and even Jennifer and Bryan tried some sashimi. (Pretty brave considering Bryan got some bad fish a while ago.)

On the way back Diana fought her way into a crowded outlet mall and emerged with one of those shamelessly self-branded Coach purses for $70 (which I’m assured is a great price). Hey, if she can get her shopping fix at a discount, I’m all for it.

I’ve always flown into LA in the past, so I didn’t know the drive was so beautiful. Pasadena, especially, is a place I’d like to go back and visit at some point. Guess that’s next trip!
