Unusual traffic spotted recently…

Seen by me:
-A trailer carrying four dozen 6′ x 5′ x 3″ sandstone slabs, presumably for use in decorative walls.
-A trailer carrying an Army helicopter chassis, with the blades, nose, and tail removed and a bright orange sticker of a face with a sly, sharp-toothed smile on the front.

Seen by Diana:
-A black van escorted by six men riding black motorcycles, dressed all in black, with black helmets, all bearing the American Express ExpressPay logo.

The one nice thing about all-day meetings…

…is that you get to watch a room full of people you once found imposing slowly lose their composure over the course of 9 hours.

At least we’re getting a lot done. My company introduced this big fancy project planning procedure, but now it seems like we’re using fast-track methods like this on every project to get around it. :P

I got turned down for the Web Developer spot. :( *I* was planning to turn *them* down, but it’s still a bruise to the ego.

Oh, well, I wouldn’t have hired me either. :P I’m not exactly fluent in the technologies they’re after. And the department manager left open the possibility of applying again in the future, so I must have at least been a front runner.

My profuse thanks to the little bird that told Diana to get me Ninja Gaiden for my birthday. I can’t begin to tell you how fucking cool this game is.

I sometimes make little mistakes when giving commands to open files in Perl, and the result is usually empty files with snippets of Perl code as their names lying around my hard drive. I just deleted a file named “update_properties(@objects)” from my work folder…

Wonder how long before I overwrite an essential OS file? :P

202 -> 87 -> McDowell -> 101 -> office = 35 minutes…

…my best time yet. Not bad for rush hour.

Remember the original Ridge Racer for the Playstation? My commute kind of reminds me of that. Not because of the high speeds or the thumping techno soundtrack, but because of the beautiful, curving mountain roads and the tendency for airplanes to occasionally shoot overhead (I pass near two airfields).

It’s a good thing the drive is so cool, because I’ll be spending nearly an hour and a half on the road each day. :/

On the way home…

There was a dark blue felt-covered easy chair, sitting upside down in the middle of the 101.

Fortunately, traffic was moving pretty slowly due to rush hour, so motorists were steering around it without much trouble. It would have caused a serious accident at any other time of day.

I considered pulling over and dragging it off the road, but given some of the stories I’d heard, I realized that was a good way to get killed.

Latest inappropriate Kanji sighting…

A woman in the call center with 男 (otoko, or “man”) tattooed on the side of her neck.

Well, she *did* look kinda mannish. She must have a Japanophile friend who hates her or something. :P
